National Safety Week 2024 Awareness Meeting at Sree UGCL Projects Limited

 

In observance of National Safety Week 2024, Sree UGCL Projects Limited has convened an awareness meeting at its Magadi Office, in line with the commitment to prioritize safety and uphold environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards .The primary aim of this event is to educate the staffs as well as the contractors about the significance of safety leadership and foster a culture of safety excellence within the organization.

                      

Objectives:

History of NSD:

 As Sree UGCL Projects Limited observes National Safety Week 2024, the event's prime objectives starts with explaining the history of National safety Day (NSD), which is a testament to India's ongoing commitment to advancing safety and health as pillars of sustainable development. National Safety Day (NSD) holds a glorious legacy since its inception in 1972 by the National Safety Council (NSC) of India. The event was conceptualized as a means to raise awareness about the importance of safety and health among the people, particularly within industrial and occupational environment.

The inaugural NSD was observed on March 4th, 1972, marked a significant milestone in India's journey towards prioritizing safety and reducing workplace accidents and fatalities. Since then, NSD has evolved into an annual observance, and it serves as a platform to engage people across various sectors in dialogue, advocacy, and action towards enhancing the safety standards in the workspace.

Theme of NSD-2024:

The theme of NSD-2024 was "Focus Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence," which summarizes a profound commitment to integrating safety leadership principles with broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) imperatives. This theme reflects a strategic shift towards comprehensive  risk management, along with acknowledging the interconnectedness of safety and social responsibility. During the meeting, we emphasized fostering a culture where each life is valued and protected. The awareness meeting has been resonated with fundamental importance of life. The discussion has transcended the confines of workplace safety compliance, emphasizing that safety measures and safeguard initiatives for the well-being of every individual, within organization and beyond.

Safety Rules and Regulations:

The awareness meeting dedicated diligent attention to explaining the essential safety rules and regulations mandated by the Factory Act law. Participants were provided with a comprehensive overview of the legal obligations and standards governing workplace safety, which reaffirm the commitment of the organization to compliance and risk mitigation.

Site Hazards and Precautions:

Discussions centered on identifying the site hazards and implementation of some necessary precautions against these site hazards to mitigate risks. Through proactive hazard identification and risk assessment, the participants were encouraged about how they should take preventive measures to ensure workplace safety.

UGCL PM Speech on Safety Culture:

The PM of Sree UGCL has delivered a speech highlighting our commitment to fostering a robust safety culture. In his speech, the PM addressed on the journey of Sree UGCL in cultivating a robust safety culture, acknowledging both triumphs and challenges along the way. Drawing upon personal narrative and industry insights, he emphasize on the collective responsibility shared by every member of the organization in championing safety excellence.

Importance of PPEs:

During the awareness meeting, significant emphasis was placed on the critical role of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in safeguarding the well-being of workers. The discussion addressed that PPE serves as the frontline defense against occupational hazards, and it provide a crucial layer of protection to mitigate the risk of workplace accidents and injuries.

Participants were also enlightened on the diverse range of PPE available and to address specific occupational hazards prevalent within their respective work environments. From helmets and safety goggles to gloves, earplugs, and respiratory masks, the importance of selecting and utilizing appropriate PPEs are paramount.

First Aid Assistance:

Lastly, the meeting has addressed the importance of first aid assistance in promptly deal with the injuries and medical emergencies. The discussion has begun with highlighting the fundamental principle that timely and effective first aid could make the difference between life and death, or between full recovery and permanent disability. Participants were reminded that the accidents and medical emergencies could occur unexpectedly. Hence they need to be equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills in times of the critical need, so that they could provide immediate assistance.

Besides, the meeting also emphasized the importance of comprehensive first aid training to the all employees and contractors, and empowering them to how they could confidently respond to a wide range of injuries and medical emergencies. From minor cuts to more serious conditions such as fractures, burns, and cardiac arrest, participants were encouraged to make familiar themselves with basic first aid procedures tailored to address common workplace incidents.
